As I have already noted in my previous post about vegan shopping in Berlin you won’t experience any problems finding vegan products out there. The same applies to cafes and spots where you can have a quick bite. There are so many of them – there are vegetarian, vegan and raw food cafes, not to mention vegetarian/vegan options in different eateries. You’re gonna need a plenty of time to check them all! During my stay in Berling I’ve been to a couple of spots of Vegan Berlin that I’m gonna tell you about.
We begin with local pizzerias. I managed to visit two Berlin vegan places that specialize only on pizza – Zeus and La Stella Nera. As I’ve already been to Zeus a couple of times I’d like to start with it. They do not cook strictly vegan pizza (as there are options with cheese. e.g.), but have a specialized vegan menu. I’d definitely recomend you to visit Zeus first. Pizzeria is located at – Boxhagener Str. 29-30. Opening hours: Mn. – Th. from 12.00 to 02.00, Fr. – St. from 12.00 to 04.00, Su. – 12.00 – 02.00.
Prices are average and the menu is huge.
Since my first visit in 2014 the inside atmosphere has become even more cosier and delightful.
Pizza is cooked right in front of your very eyes by these nice guys.
All in all, I really enjoy this pizzeria. However, if a presence of pizza containing products of animal origin is crucial for you and you don’t want to eat at the same place where such products are consumed/cooked, then I suggest you to visit La Stella Nera, which has just opened at Leykestraße 18.
They have a great variety of vegan pizzas. You can have a pizza with/without cheese, with red or white or whatever vegan sauce. It’s a bit more expensive then Zeus, but it’s worth it without a doubt. I was completely satisfied with my vegan salami and mozarella pizza. Oh, and their pizza is oven-cooked!
The next place is for American fast-food diner style lovers. Dandy Diner is located at Karl-Marx str.9. Opening hours: Mn.-Wd. from 12.00 to 22.00, Th.-St. from 12.00 to 00.00, Sn. – 12.00-22.00.
Here you can have burgers, sandwiches, salads and desserts. Prices are ok. I had a classic vegan burger and chia seeds desserts. The burger was small, but yummy.
And I was at a loss for words when it came to the dessert. It was abysmally good!
If you don’t like sweet courses, then you might have a beer and any other burger/sandwich.
The next spot is a place where you can grab a coffee and have a vegan doughnut. Brammibal’s Donuts is located at Maybachufer 8.
Different kinds of doughnuts are served everyday. Besides doughnuts you can eat a bagel and drink a smoothie. Prices are reasonable and treats are excellent. Needless to say that I was willing to spend every dime here!
Brammibal’s Donuts opening hours: Tu.-Sn. from 10.00 to 19.00. Please, be aware that most likely there will be no doughnuts by 5 p.m. since the place is really popular.
The last point will be Berlin street food, especially the Vietnamese one. Particularly I’d like to draw your attention to the Huy Hoang Asia Imbiss restaurant located at Adalbertstraße 98.
As you might expect they don’t focus on vegan food only, but have such non-cruelty options as: fried noodles, fried noodles with tofu, spring/tofu rolls, rice, rice with tofu, tofu with different kinds of sauces, and soups. Servings are immense, prices are low. You can eat your fill for only 4€.
These are very tasty tofu noodles.
Oily spring rolls are madly good; I’d recommend to split a portion for two.
Below is rice with tofu in sweet and sour sauce. To be honest, rather unimpressive meal.
On the contrary, tofu with rice and vegetables in a spicy peanut sauce is very substantial and nourishing.
Another tofu variation worth of your attention is rice with tofu and vegetables in yellow curry sauce cooked on coconut milk. Simply marvelous!
Eventually, as you might have noticed you won’t die of starvation here, I promise you that! Bon appétit =^_^=
